Ion chromatography News from Thermo Fisher Scientific Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduces Next Generation High-Pressure Ion Chromatography System

Get Optimal separations fast with high-pressure

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today introduced the Thermo Scientific Dionex ICS-5000+ Reagent-Free HPIC system, designed to elevate ion chromatography separation capabilities to new levels of resolution, speed and flexibility.

The new Dionex ICS-5000+ Reagent-FreeTM HPIC™ system is designed to operate at continuous pressures up to 5,000 psi at analytical flow rates and extend the benefits of high pressure ion chromatography to standard bore and microbore, as well as, capillary format separations. High backpressure tolerance is intended to let users increase flow rates to maximize throughput while still providing the advantages of electrolytic eluent generation and suppression. The Dionex ICS 5000+ HPIC system features a proprietary all-PEEKTM polymer flow path for metal-free inertness with the strength to operate continuously at 5,000 psi.

“We call this the universal high pressure IC, because of its extremely broad flow/pressure range. This allows very high pressures for popular workflows,” said Kim Kelderman, vice president and general manager, IC and SP, Thermo Fisher. “We’re excited to deliver this major advance in the evolution of ion chromatography speed and performance.”

The Dionex ICS-5000+ HPIC system can use the new high-efficiency 4 μm-particle-size IC columns at high pressures, which may enable users to discover peaks they have been missing. As with prior Dionex IC systems, this is a Reagent-Free system that uses deionized water to electrolytically generate high-purity eluents. This can help save time and operating costs, enhance reproducibility, minimize labor, and limit contamination.

The platform’s flexibility is enhanced by the wide variety of Dionex ICS-5000+ modules available, providing many system configuration options. The system supports a wide range of detectors, including suppressed and non-suppressed conductivity, electrochemical, UV-vis, and mass spectrometry. For simultaneous analyses of two samples or two-dimensional analyses of a single sample, the system includes two channels that can be configured in a variety of ways, including standard bore/microbore, capillary/capillary and standard bore/capillary format.

The Dionex ICS-5000+ offers full Thermo Scientific Dionex Chromeleon™ Chromatography Data System support to streamline the path from samples to results.

Thermo Scientific Vanquish Flex UHPLC for Biopharmaceutical

ORLANDO--AAPS 2015 – New technologies for a range of biopharmaceutical applications will be showcased this week at the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists Annual Meeting, October 25-29, 2015 at the Orlando County Convention Center, Booth #1911.

“We have a deep understanding of these challenges and innovate solutions at every stage of the biopharma process – from discovery to bioproduction to QA-QC.”

“Biopharmaceutical manufacturers are looking to accelerate the development pipeline while increasing efficiency and minimizing costs,” said John Rontree, director of vertical marketing, biopharma, Thermo Fisher Scientific. “We have a deep understanding of these challenges and innovate solutions at every stage of the biopharma process – from discovery to bioproduction to QA-QC.”

Designed for the biopharmaceutical market, the new Thermo Scientific Vanquish Flex UHPLC system delivers exceptional performance and reliable separations with the flexibility required for labs developing methods ranging from high-throughput analyses to pharmaceutical quality control applications. The Vanquish Flex is designed for high speed, resolution and sensitivity, allowing researchers who perform biocompatibility analysis to obtain high quality and consistent data. By incorporating an integrated modular design, customers have the ability to mix and match modules depending on the demands of the application.

The National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT), a training facility in Dublin, Ireland, trains more than 90 percent of leading biopharmaceutical manufacturing companies. The facility is conducting a range of tests using the Vanquish Flex UHPLC including peptide mapping, glycan analysis, intact protein analysis and others. “At NIBRT, we push the analytical capabilities of our instruments very hard,” said Dr. Jonathan Bones, Principal Investigator, NIBRT. “The Vanquish Flex offers us a range of powerful detectors, which adds significantly to our chromatography toolkit.”

The new Thermo Scientific SMART Digest kit is a protein analysis kit designed for biopharmaceutical applications that require highly reproducible, sensitive and fast bottom-up analyses of proteins in high-throughput workflows. Designed to minimize preparation time and variability, the SMART Digest kit facilitates fast and reliable analytical results using a simple three-step, easy-to-implement process that can be automated. Its immobilized trypsin design is formulated for high-quality data with significantly reduced sample preparation time compared to traditional in-solution digestion methods.

The Thermo Scientific MAbPac RP column is designed for analytical chemists requiring high-resolution accurate mass determination of intact proteins, such as monoclonal antibody (mAb) variants, antibody drug conjugates (ADCs), as well as those conducting high-resolution mass spectrometric analysis of mAbs and mAb fragments. This addresses the increased need for reliable and rapid characterization of these compounds required for upstream biopharmaceuticals development. The MAbPac RP column has been optimized for MS and UV detection: its thermal and pH stability yields promote consistent separations, while the polymeric resin has a pore size that is optimal for mAbs.

Also at AAPS, Thermo Fisher will also present a series of Vendor Seminars on Monday, October 26th, 9 am – 12 pm:

Separation of Monoclonal Antibody and Antibody Drug Conjugates

Workflows for Monoclonal Antibody Characterization

How to Improve your Peptide Quantitation Workflow to Provide Greater Speed and Reproducibility

IC-MS support to gold-standard Chromatography Data System

CHICAGO – Pittcon 2014 – Laboratory managers, scientists and technicians can now operate all their instruments using the same familiar software package with a new release of Thermo Scientific Dionex Chromeleon 7.2 Chromatography Data System (CDS) Service Release 1.

The software now supports liquid and ion chromatography as well as gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. Thermo Fisher Scientific will showcase the Chromeleon CDS at booth #2441 during Pittcon 2014, being held at McCormick Place in Chicago from March 2 - 6.

“Last year at Pittcon, we bridged the chromatography-mass spectrometry gap with the Chromeleon 7.2 CDS for GC-MS,” said Christoph Nickel, global software marketing director, chromatography, for Thermo Fisher. “Customer interest has been overwhelming, and this year we’re taking it to the next level by adding control of Thermo Scientific LC-MS instrumentation. With this new release, we’re responding to growing customer demand to apply high-sensitivity, information-rich MS techniques for quantitative applied analyses. Chromeleon CDS’s ease-of-use makes mass spec technology more accessible for routine operation.”

The latest version of the software adds full control for the Thermo Scientific MSQ single quadrupole system, TSQ Quantiva and Endura triple quadrupole instruments as well as the company’s benchtop Orbitrap-based high-resolution accurate mass instruments. This release enables CDS users to realize the benefits of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s LC-MS instrumentation in a familiar software environment with full scalability, remote access to instruments and data, and compliance with GLP, GMP, and 21 CFR Part 11 regulations.

Because lab personnel need to learn only one software package for a variety of chromatography and mass spectrometry instruments, laboratories can greatly reduce training requirements while improving productivity and the quality of results. The software also features one-click eWorkflows, designed to help users dramatically reduce method development time and quickly run and analyze samples, and built-in spreadsheet-type reporting to eliminate the need to export data.

Chromeleon 7.2 is designed around the concept of operational simplicity, to make it easy to move from samples to results. Microsoft®’s .NET architecture makes this latest generation CDS able to accommodate future needs.
